Almost May

Things are winding down around here. May signals a switch in schedules.

This is the last class week at BSF. Next week will only be a leaders fellowship and Sharing Day with the class, where the members share what God has shown them this year in our study of the life of Moses.

I know He has shown me a lot. Mainly that in my heart I can be an unfaithful, stiff necked Israelite. It’s a constant battle my Friends.

Mousey will be finished with her semester after Monday of next week, WOO HOO!!!!!!!

The Dane will graduate from Moody next month, DOUBLE WOO HOO!!!!!!!

As things wind down, other things ramp up. Like yard work.

Last weekend Honey mentioned that he had better get the lawnmower out of the shed and up and running.

Spring is trying to happen.

When I look out at our front and back yard I see a bit of work.

And possibly another hedge of death. 😦

Speaking of our backyard, we saw a raccoon last weekend, walking on our rock wall, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!!!

It was very big and fluffy and CUTE!

I am looking forward to going to the favorite flower place!!! That always makes me happy!

I have a seed project that I will tell you about soon. I am gathering supplies in preparation.

Have a good, definite spring day.

To Nana and Papa’s House We Go.

I went out to visit my Father and his wife Marilyn a couple weeks ago. Since my Dad has been a little house bound lately, he had not been out to get his hairs cut, and all those hairs were bugging him.

Since he was a barber in a previous life, he had some of the tools of the trade kicking around. It was a nice day so we took it outside. It was a little windier than I thought and I caught some of those hairs smack in the face, as did his dog Teddy, who ate them ON PURPOSE!!!!!

He was very glad to get those tufts behind his ears removed!

There he is, looking all handsome and freshly shorn, lounging with his hair eating dog!

I also tried to help Marilyn with a few tech problems she had been having with her iPad. Which is really sort of funny when you think about it because I am a technological id-jit. We did manage to get her Facebook photo changed, and we were very proud of ourselves! Looking good Nana!

The Boy was home for the weekend to pick up his car and we decided to go and pay Nana and Papa a little visit.

While there, he fixed the biggest problem Marilyn and I were previously having with her iPad, changing her password so she could download apps. Like Instagram!!!!!  The Boy said he was very good at that particular change because he had to do it regularly for some reason that I have already forgotten.

Marilyn and I got that all set up, straightened her around on Pinterest and took some pictures while The Boy and Papa got caught up on things.

One of Marilyn’s Instagram photos!

The Boy took this picture of their 1 1/2 year old pup, my younger brother Teddy, child of my Father’s old age. He keeps them hopping and laughing, and just generally makes life fun!

She is on fire now, she has posted one all by herself!

Who knows what we will accomplish on the next visit!

Potent Quotable

Sometimes the best cure for life’s woes is a sense of humor. ~Frank Sonnenberg

A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs — jolted by every pebble in the road. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Above all else: go out with a sense of humor. It is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life. ~Hugh Sidey

Parmesan zucchini chips, must try.

I have several bookcases where this would be a welcome addition. Perhaps not the squid fabric though.

Clever! Bury it in your yard.

I like.

This goes along with our lesson this week in Deuteronomy 31 and 32. Very sad truth.

Choose wisely my friends.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hi Guys! Thanks for stopping by! If you would like to link up, click the button below and head over to meet out hostess Joyce, she’s a very nice gal!

1. Have you ever had to wear a uniform? If yes, tell us more. Did you love it or hate it?

I have on several occasions, some with more acceptance than others.

The first time was at a Christian school I attended for a year. I did not like those because they were dresses, polyester, and required different color shirts or something for different days.

The second time was my brief time working at Burger King. Hideous brown, orange and gold polyester.

Third time was a beautiful blue and white plaid polyester number with a white apron, very impractical for serving ice cream sundaes at Friendly’s.

The last time was a German dirndl with a white shirt, worn while serving all manner of German food at the restaurant located in The Bavarian Inn Hotel on Ouellette Ave. in downtown Windsor, Ontario, which I am sorry to say burned down.. At least it was cotton!!!!!

Uniforms have their place, but I don’t miss them 🙂
2. April 22nd is Earth Day. What is one thing you do personally to be a good steward of planet Earth?

I try and not be wasteful of our resources. I am also an faithful recycler, occasional  thrifter and am fond of repurposing

3. Brown rice, quinoa, or couscous…your healthy grain of choice? How often are one of the three on your menu at home?  Given a choice between white rice, brown rice, wild rice, and fried rice which would you go for?

.I don’t mind brown rice but my people are not on board. Have never had couscous to my knowledge and am willing to admit that I have probably never had quinoa cooked properly.

White rice is the most likely, although many like fried rice. Of course, they have the least nutritional value.

4. In your opinion, who has the best job ever?

In my opinion I had the best job ever!!!!

Raising our children was the finest thing in my museum of recollection.

5. What’s a situation in your life currently requiring patience?

Some of my health concerns require patience. Some relationships as well.

6.  Do you live your life around days of the week? Explain.

I do. From September to May my Wednesday and Thursday mornings are reserved for learning and serving at Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Sunday mornings are reserved for worshipping the Lord at our church. All else is fair game.

7. In a nod to the A to Z challenge happening around town this month, what ‘R word’ best describes your April?

Ruminate: To go over in the mind repeatedly, :to engage in contemplation, chew over, consider, mull over, question, ponder, think about, turn over, weigh, wrestle with.

There are a lot of things happening to people I care about, and for most part the only thing I can do about it is take it to the Lord. Which is what I should do anyway.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I mentioned yesterday that I had switched to sandals and I was NOT going back. I think I jinxed myself. It’s 37 out there this morning. It might require shoes AND a coat :/

Have a warm week.

Hello…tap, tap, tap?

Hmmm, I never really intended to take a blogging break but it appears that is what happened. The only thing I can say is life is often full and consuming, as well as heavy and sad, and all can make for less than optimum blogging conditions.

How about a little catch up list?

I try to always be open and honest about what I share in this space, but not everything is for public consumption, not everything is my story to tell. Some things are better told in hindsight, after the dust of perspective has settled.

As I reread the above sentences it sounds like our family is in turmoil. We are not. Well, The Boy is, but his ongoing health issues are not unknown to you all.

Speaking of The Boy, he has been taking a chemo pill for several months now. While his counts are somewhat improved (40s as opposed to 6, but far less than the normal 150 to 400), he has been very much laid low with side effects. As you can imagine, his quality of life has suffered . His doctor did lower the dose and life has resumed again.

It will be a year in May since his chronic ITP has come out of remission. The last time this happened his platelets were seriously out of control for about 15 months. I know the doctors want his health to be restored and they are trying everything they know to help him. I am thankful for this, but we are going over their heads and asking The One who created The Boy to intervene. The Great Physician knows what triggers the ITP and He knows what turns the switch off. Prayers are much appreciated.

Y’All, it’s spring in The Mitten!!!!!!! That is 7 exclamation marks because 7 is God’s number!!

I made the switch from boots to sandals and I am NOT going back!

I haven’t worn a coat in 2 weeks. Some days this was risky and or unwise, but I lived to tell.

It’s a total God thing to go from sad, brown, dirty, ugly Michigan to fresh, clean, budding, GREEN Michigan! Really, it happens every year! Spring is a kiss on the cheek from a really good God.

Honey only worked 8 hours a day last week and it was AWESOME!!!!!!! (7!)

It didn’t carry over to this week, but it was so nice and there could be more to come!

He slept AND got some things crossed off his to do list, it was a beautiful thing.

I hope this keeps up through the summer, maybe we will actually ride those bikes we take down from over the garage every summer and put back up, un-ridden.

I went to a bridal shower for Capri Deb and BFG’s daughter Jaclyn on Sunday! It was such a nice gathering of lovely people from all walks of their life. I know there are some who complain about showers but I am not one of them. What’s not to love about celebrating a happy event, opening awesome presents, eating yummy food and visiting with nice people???

And Capri Patt was there! She is back from her winter home in Florida and was I ever glad to hug her neck!!!!!!!

There was one sad thing about that shower. These are Mrs. Schmenkman’s people, and Mrs. Schmenkman was not able to make it 😦

But she and Mr. C will be here for the wedding at the end of May 🙂 !!!!!!!

Speaking of that shower, there was a gal there that I went to high school with! How weird is that?

She is a good friend of the groom’s mother.

I was not expecting to see someone there from my volleyball team and graduating class! From 35 years ago! Small world.

I guess that is enough for today. Hopefully I will get my groove back, I really have to record our life here, it’s about the only memory I have left anymore!
