I believe I mentioned that Mrs. Schmenkman was coming to The Mitten for a visit. The visit was duel pronged, business and pleasure. Schmenky is a wildlife rehabilitator in Virginia, where she lives with her husband Mr. C and their many critters on Sassy Cat Hill. As of last week she was also hosting FOUR beavers of various ages That is a lot.
Beav’s are a 2 year commitment for a rehabilitator, that’s how long they need to stay with their mothers to have a successful beavery life. It involves months of bottle feeding, snuggling, water care and general food and cage maintenance. It takes a big chunk of time, energy and money to raise the youngsters and keep them comfy, housed and fed until they can be released back into the wild.
At the moment she has 2 one year old babies, a two year old slated to be released this spring and she had Matilda, not sure how old, who had been found injured and was a special needs beav. Schmenk had been contacted by the Howell Nature Center in Michigan to see if she could bring her handicapped beav to live with their handicapped beav, Woppy, who had been shot and was also unreleasable. So Matilda went to live in a group home with him!!!!
The drive up from Virginia was uneventful _thank you Lord!) and the transfer went smoothly! The person in charge of the facility texted Schmenk the next day and said when she left the night before they had been snuggling and she knew Matilda had eaten because all of the food was gone the next morning, and Woppy typically does not eat all of his dinner. It sounds like a match made in heaven.
After the animal re-homing, it was time to visit!
Here are half of The Capri’s! Capri K, Capri D and Capri L, also known as Mrs. Schmenkman! We were missing Capri’s P, Laurie, and A, as we always do!
Here I am showing them Honey’s Christmas present, the selfie stick!
The gals came over Friday morning and everyone got their hairs done, which was greatly appreciated by ALL! We then went to Ikea, Kirkland’s and to Wayne to visit a new store owned by one of Schmenky’s former high school classmates. It was a lovely little place called Helium Studio and we wish them much success! Handmade, interesting art, and lots of Michigan stuff! They even teach some classes.
I didn’t take any pictures because that seemed creepy and stalkerish, but I did get this one in the hall, where no one could see me.
Everyone reconvened back at our place for dinner, fish tacos! This time Honey and Deb’s honey, BFG, joined us.
Showing BFG the selfie stick. He is a big old hunk of honey!
Back to US!!!!
We were having a fine time!
Sy could not figure out what was going on. He almost seemed worried.
One of the first things Schmenk mentioned on arrival was how did we take those funny pictures she had been seeing on the blog? She wanted IN. In order to use the filters, you have to be on Snapchat.
Unfortunately for The Ab-Cat she was home and available, hence she was the unlucky one who had to sign us all up for Snapchat!!!! Oh she hates instructing us elders on the technology! What’s not to love about 4 old people firing questions at you all at once????? It was an ordeal for her.
What is this for? How do you get there? How do you friend? WHERE IS THE WALL???? How can you go back? How, H.O.W., HOW???????? Rapid fire machine gun style.
Bless her heart real good, we Capri’s and Honey are now all participating members of the Snapchat community! She was not pleased and would not accept our friend request. Her monumental loss, she misses out on gems like this.
Or this sparkling beauty.
You know we had to try all of the filters.
Oh yes, we did.
Lest you think it was only us amusing ourselves, Mousey and her “friend”, who needs to choose a blob name, were right there in the thick of it with us.
I feel safe posting this on the blob because they posted it on Facebook for the whole world to see.
I love how his nose and lips fit perfectly in her cheek!
She’s so purty!
AND back to us! We were laughing SO hard with this stuff!!! I think BFG thought we were nuts. Honey knows we are.
This could quite possibly be Honey’s favorite thing EVER.
Looks like the Dad from The Incredibles!
Even Sy got in on it. I call this rat cat with crimped whiskers.
He was very done with us at this point, slapping that phone away.
I snapped this to them after they left. A sweet parting memory.
Ah. It was a fun night. Look out world, we are unleashed!!!
