Way Back When-sday Hodgepodge

Hi Guys, welcome back to the Hodgepodge! If you would like to link up your blog or read some other folks answers, click on the button below and head over to Joyce’s. She will be glad to have you!

1. This is the last Hodgepodge in April. Share something you learned this month.

Y’All, we are almost done with our BSF study of Revelation, and the last couple of weeks have been all about HEAVEN!!!  HALLELUJAH!!!! No more weirdness!

I never spent much time thinking about heaven until my Mom passed away 6 years ago. It always seemed so far away, but when someone you dearly love has arrived on the other side? It makes you think about it a little differently. I remember my Mom saying when her Mother passed away that she really had more loved ones on the heaven side. When you think of everyone in your life that has loved you and built into your life, at some time there has to be a tipping point. As heaven claims generations of family and friends that you have loved, one by one, year by year, you long to see them again, and it loosens your grip on this world.

All that to say that since my Mom has gone Home, I DO wonder what Heaven will be like. I know the Bible tells us we will have new bodies, that gave me great comfort because my Mom’s body was plain worn out. I know that there will be no more tears, death, mourning, crying or pain, for the old order has passed away, that has to be one of my favorite verses. I am ever so thankful that there will be no more sin because I am WAY ready to lay my sinful nature down and walk right over it into the pearly gates! We will also see the Lord face to face and live with Him forever. I can’t even!

So those are the things I know and have thought about, but what I learned was in the notes this week.

I did not know all that!!! Can I tell you how much I LOVE  having that glimpse??? A new body (size 6 please), new art, science, worship, and music? Conversation, laughter and affection, my very favorite things NOW, will be made even better????? He is such a good, good Father!

I have always jokingly said that my Mom was up in heaven decorating mansions and gardening with her Mother for their Savior! Now I really think she might be! Someone has to take care of the new garden of Eden!

2.  It’s National Poetry Month, and we all know you can’t escape an April Hodgepodge without a little poetry. Keeping the first line as is, change the rest of the wording in this familiar rhyme to make it your own – ‘Hickory Dickory Dock…

Hickry Dickory Dock

The weeds have arrived, what a shock.

They like all the raining

My poor back is paining

As I pull them all out and take stock!

3. What were one or two rules in the home you grew up in? Growing up, did you feel your parents were strict? Looking back do you still see it that way?

This is proving harder than I thought. When we were younger we were not allowed to help ourselves to snacks, we had to ask. I now realize this was probably to keep us from spoiling our dinner or getting into something our Mom had set aside for lunches. Another rule was don’t talk sassy! I am pretty sure I was a sassy girl.

I don’t remember thinking they were too strict at the time and in hindsight they really were not. We were pretty good kids and it was a different world then.

Our kids think we were too strict and overprotective. I have told them before that it was our job to protect and care for them, and when I stand before God and that’s the worst thing I am guilty of, I can take it!

4. Tell us about a kitchen or cooking disaster or mishap you’ve experienced. Do you have many from which to choose?

I do have some experience here! The last thing was pretty funny and we refer to it still. Mousey and I were wanting to try a Pinterest recipe for some kind of breaded, roasted green beans. Of course it looked delicious in the picture. It may have been one of the first times The Good Eater had dined with us. After following the recipe faithfully we ended up with green beans where the egg breading all slid off and basically turned into scrambled eggs. We called them egg beans. You might not think they would turn up in conversations. You would be wrong.

5. Plant a kiss, plant doubt, plant a tree, plant yourself somewhere…which on the list have you most recently planted?

How about plant a plant? I did some work in our front yard beds this week and planted and replanted some day lillies,  wild geranium and pansies. And then mulched them, hence my paining back.

6. What’s your most worn item of clothing this time of year? Are you tired of it?

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t have spring clothing. It’s either winter or summer. Some years the most worn thing are my boots, some years it’s the sandals. I think I am tired of the boots. Plus once you wear the sandals, it feels weird to put the boots back on :/

7. I’m wrapping up the A-Z Blog Challenge this month and our Hodgepodge lands on letter W. What’s one word beginning with W that describes you in some way? How about a word to describe your home, also beginning with W?

I am a wife and our home is in the western part of our city.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Here is the Way Back When-sday part of the post.

This is probably the summer of 1997, that would make The Ab-Cat 8, The Boy 6 and Mousey almost 3. We were at The Toledo Zoo, which was a favorite of ours, riding the train. There is a lot to love about this picture! Thumb sucking Mousey Lou, The Boy wearing the shirt he bought at his elementary school fundraiser, and Abby looking very jaunty in her backwards baseball cap! Such a fine memory!

Thanks for stopping by!

Priscilla Shirer Simulcast

I did a fun thing last weekend! Our church hosted a Priscilla Shirer simulcast and we had about 160 ladies from all over the Detroit area in attendance!

I went with my friend Marilyn from BSF. Last summer I had been telling her about the study our church offered featuring Priscilla Shirer called Gideon. I kept telling her she was such a good speaker. Then she sat next to a woman at the airport who was reading a Priscilla Shirer book and the woman told her she should read it! When I heard about the simulcast, I invited her, her response was she needed to check her out, her name was in the air! I have observed that phenomenon myself.

I have heard about Priscilla for several years now. Honey has listened to her father, Tony Evans, on the radio for many years and is a fan! Her brother Anthony led worship. I guess he was on The Voice at one time!

Marilyn had never heard of any of them. I told her that she has toured with Beth Moore and she said she had never heard of her either!! I said she needed to Google her!

After we had sat down Marilyn looked across the room and said a woman looked like another friend from BSF, Adell. We looked again, it WAS Adell!!!!! What an unexpected treat to see her there with her daughter!

We caught back up at lunch and Adell’s daughter graciously took our picture! From left, Marilyn, Adell and Capri K.

Priscilla oozes Jesus and is a dynamic speaker, we took a lot of notes. Here are a few of the thoughts I liked.

What if we pray our self out of blessing because we don’t like the package it’s presented in?

A deception of the enemy has been that we don’t have and are not enough. The enemy desires to form a weapon against you. With all the (negative) words coming out of your mouth, you give the enemy something to work with. What words are coming out of your mouth?

We are made in His image, if we are believers, His DNA is running through our veins!

She told the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 with the 5 loaves and 2 fishes. The disciples had to unexpectedly feed them!

Jesus said in this unexpected place of mine, YOU give them something to eat. Tucked within the problem is the resource. They handed to Jesus what He had given them in the first place (daily bread). Take what He has given you and give it back to Him, don’t try and create something in your own power. There is an eternal ripple effect when Jesus takes our resources. He blesses it when we give it to Him. He divided further what the disciples already thought was too small.Every little piece carried the blessing of God! Everyone was satisfied, buffet satisfied! One of the ways you can detect God’s fingerprints is it is exceedingly, abundantly blessed. There were 12 baskets left over, one for each disciple! They gave God a little and walked out with more than they could have imagined.

Get your spiritual eyewear on!

When it seems like God is doing nothing He is often crafting a masterpiece.

Plan obedience. I will trust that He is working in my life, even when I can’t see it. Obey what I know.

When you wonder if God will still be able to do anything through you when you find yourself in an unexpected “there” place, say to yourself “where ever you are, Girl, there you are!”. We are always trying to circumvent the process, don’t try and hurry through, ask Him what He has for you in the “there” place. Mary was in her “there” place when God did a supernatural work. The things that are going to be birthed usually happen “there”. God produces something in you that bears the mark of the Holy Spirit. “There” is where you are supposed to be. There are people waiting for us to get “there” and change the trajectory of their lives. The shepherds lives were changed because Mary was “there”.

If you ever have the opportunity to hear her, Marilyn and I highly recommend it!

Monday Catch-up

Y’All!!!! We finally got some spring over the weekend! The coats came off, the sandals came out and Mousey even caught some rays out by the still covered ce-ment pond! I do believe it hit 80 degrees, HALLELUJAH and THANK YOU LORD! Once all that happens I cannot put the boots back on, I just can’t, so its sandals or bust. Or frozen piggies.

The elder felines enjoyed a fine time of rolling on the front walkway. We dug out Sy’s collar and leashed him to the chair on the front porch, oh it was glorious! They were BASKING!!!!!!!

I toured the back yard to see what was popping up. I am very pleased to report that it looks like our hedge is growing little baby leaves instead of sporting the usual Hedge of Death appearance it has worn for the last 2 or 3 years!! I am very thankful for this news! I had already mentioned to Honey that if we had to cut it back to its nubbins one more time I was quitting it. Because what’s the point of having a hedge if it isn’t capable of hedging anymore??

While I was out taking a gander, I remembered that I wanted to start some more hyacinth bean plants to make an arch over our pool gate.

I did this successfully last year and blobbed about it here. Mrs. Schmenkman gave me some ideas to do it better this year and I am ready to give it a shot. I kept some plant containers from last years flowers and will use them to start the seeds. It will give the seeds more room to stretch their leggy roots and the whole cardboard egg carton business was a bit cramped and soggy.

Speaking of purty flowers, my friend Dear Sandra gave all of us on Admin at BSF these sweet little violas last Thursday!

Doing this on Saturday with my friend Marilyn! Our church did her study on Gideon last summer. She is a very good speaker and I am looking forward to the day!

We are nearing the end of our study in Revelation. To that I say a hearty AMEN. People, there is a lot of strange stuff in this book, but then there is this.

It doesn’t get much better than knowing that living in this world!

This is the last week of our 3 Kings study at church. It has been a much easier study to follow, but thorough and convicting in its own way. Saul had no heart for the Lord, Solomon had a half heart and David had a whole heart. It showed that you can start out faithful and trusting in the Lord, but not everyone finishes strong. I know where I want to be at the end of my life, but even the best intentions can be waylaid by temptation and sin. It’s a decision every day to seek Him first and walk in His ways. Please Lord, make it so.

I underlined every time David inquired of the Lord. There were a lot of times. This is something I always want to remember. David was God’s anointed, His chosen, then the king, and he still inquired of God. There’s a lesson there.

For all those out there who may feel unqualified or disadvantaged or just not so suchy muchy? God has a different kind of viewpoint.

Always remember.

If I just remembered one thing He has done for me everyday I would have a different perspective. ONE THING, EVERY DAY, out of the many, many things I have seen Him do on behalf of me and our family. That should make the “fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart” part a piece of cake.

Blueprint for a successful life right there.

Over the weekend Mrs. Schmenkman, who is a licensed wild life rehabilitator, released one of the young’uns she has raised since bottle feeding days. She has a post up about the joy and sadness she is feeling now that BB the beaver has been released. (((Hugs))) Schmenky !

Ok, it looks glorious out there today, enjoy it! I need to git.

Haven’t had a Pinterest post in a month of Sundays!

I have no where to make a path to, but if I did.

I think I could copy this, already have a similar pot!

How cute is that? Covers all the required areas, looks cool in warm weather. I’m on board.

You can see where my mind is lately. We are longing for spring up here in The Mitten. It was nice and sunny but mucho lacking in actual warmth. They say we may see 70s this weekend. Please Lord, make it so!

Happy 78th Grandpa!

I believe I have mentioned that I am a little behind in the blob. The weekend before last we celebrated The Grandpa’s birthday! Only a couple weeks after his actual birthday, which is pretty darn good for us, we are notoriously late birthday celebrators!

He blew the candle out on a requested pineapple upside down cake. I have to direct you to the outside view here. Welcome to spring in Michigan. What the heck Michigan? The Tiger game was even cancelled yesterday because it was so stinkin’ ugly around here.

Happy Birthday Dad!!!!!! I’m so happy you were born!

Photo bombed by my boyfriend of 30 years.

IMG_5494 (1)

His best friend Mrs. H joined us! She is like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way! She was rooting for spring in her pretty flowered sweater.

The Goomba is obsessed with this thingy, a ball on the end of a string thingy that you catch in a cup thingy. Clear? You got it now? He is VERY good at it. It reminds me of hacky sack. But with a string and a cup thingy. Beeve gave it a whirl. Love the intense look on the Goomba’s face!

He got it!!!!

Goomba was so proud of his Pop! Photo bombed by Sy on the lower right!

On the other side of the room was Mousey and The Good Eater. They did not try the ball/string/cup thingy. To my knowledge anyway.

But Honey did!!! I am assuming he said it was easy and he could do it blindfolded!

IMG_1822 (1)

Goomba was diligently giving him instructions, like bend your knees! I don’t think he was very successful.

Then I HAD to show Beeve the Snapchat filters. It was my sisterly duty. Oh yes, he enjoyed the Snapchat.

Yes, yes he did.

As did his son.

This was my very favorite. Could be Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure right there!

Looks Dennis the Menace-y, doesn’t he??!!

A very fun evening celebrating a fine gentleman!!!!

The Weekly Sy Plus 1

There is something about a sleeping kitty, makes you forget all of their transgressions. Temporarily.

He is a snuggler, caught in the act on Mousey’s snapchat.

Also caught on Mousey’s snapchat. Will remember this moment when he wants to nuzzle my face. What is it about drinking out of the turlet bowl?! They are all guilty. Fresh? Cold? Truly heinous? I promise you they get fresh water, in a regular, pretty bowl, every day!!!!!

And I snuck Halle Berry in today, looking fantastically grumpy and oblivious!

That’s enough cat for today.
