Florida!

Standard

We thought we were going to be spending a couple months in Florida this winter, but that guy I married? Yeah, still not retired. He thought last year was going to be his last. He now says he will be done on or before January 1, 2020. It will happen some time, so I am just continuing on with our life, knowing that it will be a nice surprise when it finally arrives 😉

We did get down to our home in Estero for a couple of weeks though. I was a little bossy about the weeks, I knew the other Capri’s were planning on being at Capri P’s place on North Captiva Island the last week of February, so our trip needed to begin or end with that week.

We had a little trouble getting out of The Mitten due to an untimely bomb cyclone and Frontier Airlines cancelling our flight after we were already at the airport. By the way Frontier, still waiting for that notification!!! We were fortunate that Spirit Airlines had a flight to Ft Myers just a little later and were able to accommodate a lot of us disgruntled Frontier fliers. The two airlines had a difference of opinion on checked baggage weight, so we had a hurried rearranging of 10 pounds from my to be checked bag to our carry ons. Good thing we had room there! And off we went!

We had planned to pick up our rental car and then stop for dinner, but our Spirit flight arrived a some later so we just went to our friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart, did some shopping and had our first vacation meal at our place 🙂

Hello Cheeto’s, my vacation friend! Sourdough ham, cheese and egg sandwiches, YUM.

We heavily used that Wal-Mart. Good grief, sometimes twice a day! Until we get our place situated, we seem to have many needs.

The weather was B-eautiful!!! One of the reasons we loved this community so much was it had a lovely pool and clubhouse. The last time we drove through with our realtor, we discovered there was a satellite pool at the other end of our street! I am here to tell you we have still never been to that big, beautiful main pool, we love this one, and it’s plenty big.

This was our “spot” for two weeks. There were never more than a handful of folks there at any given time. The constants were Elvis and Priscilla, 12-2, like clockwork 🙂

On Wednesday we drove to Capri P’s marina and were picked up by Capri’s L and D and their honeys, Mr C and BFG!!! They shuttled us over to her island in style! Honey made us fresh fish and shrimp tacos and then the guys went fitchin’ and we gals talked and Schmenky and I cut hairs, because we wuz shaggy! The island was beautimous, as usual and old friends are even more so.

We left a little early due to a possible weather event, but they dropped us off and got home safely.

So glad we were able to visit!

The Ab-Cat had been sending us the news from home. She had a needy cattan who couldn’t seem to get close enough to satisfy his need for attention.

Snap chats with MoonPie!

There’s our girls ❤

On Saturday we drove back out to Capri P’s marina to pick up Mrs Schmenkman and Mr C, who had a super early flight the next morning and needed a lift to the airport. They became our first official overnight guests!

After being down a week, we finally got together with Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Bob. They had been over on the other side of the state grandparenting their littles 🙂

IMG-8724 (1)

And later that night we picked up Miss Mousey-Ann from the airport!! She is our vacation buddy 🙂

IMG-8729 (1)

Her idea of a great vaca is logging many hours soaking up the sun at the pool. She fit right in with Elvis and Priscilla! She swam and read her World War 2 book. She is eclectic. One day it was a little chilly, early 60s. We packed up to go to the pool as usual, knowing that the pool area is fairly protected from the wind and the sunshine was warm, and I kid you not, we passed residents walking their dogs in FULL ON coats!!! They were probably thinking we were crazy tourists.

Honey slid right into that retirement mode. Puttering around the house, lounging at the pool,

fitchin’ in the ditch behind the pool. He did not catch any but some big birds caught a few!

IMG-8737 (1)

We then proceeded to eat and shop and visit with Uncle Bob and Aunt Phyllis.

Selfies are always a trial for us.

Don’t remember what caused this fracas!

Thanks for taking me on vacation Honey!

We tried it again outside. It’s debatable which group shot is best, although Honey commented on this one his eye was doing that strange Marty Feldman thing that it did one time when we had a family picture taken for our church directory!!! It’s never happened before or since!

IMG-8754 (1)

Now both eyes are looking straight on!

IMG-8755 (1)

Way too soon it was time to go. We love our place.

IMG-8757 (1)

We gave it one last try at the airport, It’ll do pig, it’ll do.

Florida 2019 is in the books and on the blog!

Pictures From the Winter

Standard

Our house has been busy this winter! The addition of The Boy, The Dane, MoonPie and Little Dipper have revived lots of words that we have not used on a regular basis. Words like nap, diapers, baby gate, paci, car seat, patty cake. Little words for little people ❤ Oh yes, and the words Elmo and whale are pretty big too.

Here are some pictures from the last couple months. We are enjoying watching the babies grow and reach new milestones. I am particularly loving watching Honey and remembering what a good Daddy he was to our little Furlings 🙂 Papa is MoonPie’s favorite and she is very happy when he wakes up!

SNOW! Kind of a new thing for her! It was SO DANG COLD shortly after they all arrived in January! Winter made such a scene the first couple weeks they were here!

❤ melted 🙂

The Boy and Dane took the youth group on a trip to their old stomping grounds, Chicago! They took Little Dipper with them and we had a fine time with this little homemaker!

IMG-8840 (1)

She was good to ALL in her care too.

IMG-8839 (1)

She is one to enjoy a good snap chat session.

IMG-8832 (1)

Little Dipper is growing like a weed! He has been enjoying a mat on the floor while trying his level best to capture the dangly things that are there enticing him! He has become very adept at rolling from his tummy to his back, but I’m pretty sure it has not once been intentional 🙂 This was on his road trip to Chi Town, where he was quite the little trooper!

We are so enjoying having this time to get to know them and love on their little selves! If you need us we will be right here jiggling babies, reading all manner of books and singing many songs, and loving every minute.

Juanita vs Deer= No Escape

Standard

We had a traumatic morning last month.

Honey discovered that Juanita, our Escape, was making a truly heinous clunking noise on her back right wheel area. Like it sounded like something was perilously close to coming loose, or breaking off. After some investigation, Honey ascertained that something had rusted through. After a little more research, he found out that it was a super common ailment for Escapes of Juanita’s generation. He decided he wanted to take it to a body shop near where he works in Flat Rock. He took my car, Johnny Cash, to work the night before and I was going to meet him at the body shop the next morning.

I knew which exit to get off of, but wasn’t quite sure about the rest, so I called him and told him to talk me there. I had been praying the WHOLE way there for safety, because the noise was a little fearsome and I don’t fancy being on the freeway and having the wheel dislodge from the car body!! It was still dark and Honey was telling me I was coming up on the first railroad track to cross, crossed it with no problem and then there was a whole deer, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and we hit!

I was so shocked and rattled and said I JUST HIT A DEER!!!!! The car did not lose control or go skidding anywhere, so i just kept rolling at about 20 mph. Honey said to pull over and he would come to me. I drove over to the side and then decided that it was not the safest spot to be, pretty close to the white line, but when I got back on the road there were a lot of cars flashing their lights at me, that’s when I realized I had no lights. I pulled over again and waited. And cried, because I was pretty sure I had just taken a life. That’s what I wailed to the policeman when he tapped on my window. Both he and Honey seemed to want to know how far back the…meeting had occurred. I am sorry to say I was not helpful in that area. I could not gauge how far I drove after, They could not find the victim.

We waited for the State Trooper to come, I guess that is why the police officer needed to know the location, because it was not his county, or district, or whatever.

While we were waiting for Mousey to take a picture of our registration and proof of insurance, which Honey had taken out when he removed his junk before taking it in for repairs, we took some sad pictures of our poor girl.

IMG-8799 (1)

She was steaming, leaking and all around having the worst day of her car life. 😦

IMG-8804 (1)

Deer fur 😦

IMG-8805 (1)

I hit the whole deer and nothing but the deer.

IMG-8807 (1)

After Mousey texted the pertinent information, the Trooper texted it to himself and he finished all his business, we waited for the tow truck to take Juanita to a body shop where Beeve’s friend works. Then Honey took me to breakfast. I had been reassuring Mousey that I was ok and sending her some pictures. It wasn’t long before the jokes started coming. It is our way of dealing with stress.

IMG-8821 (1)

IMG-8822 (1)

I thanked Honey for breakfast and told him I was sorry for wrecking his car. He said he has been driving that road to work for 31 years and never hit a deer and I drive it once and BOOM.

We felt in need of a little comfort food, and our favorite donut place just happened to be right there.

IMG-8808 (1)

It helped.

IMG-8809 (1)

After all the police and Honey grilling about where the scene of the accident was, Honey and I decided to really look now that it was daylight. I asked Honey why they were so concerned about where the deer was? He said maybe they were going to put it out of it’s misery. I said I didn’t think it was alive because…pieces flying and all. The State Trooper tried to convince me that he probably ran away, deer are hardier than you might think. Not too far down we came to the scene of the crime and Honey assured me that that deer did not run away and on the good side, it was quick for her. He agreed that the Trooper was trying to make me feel better. I still feel sad about killing her and Juanita.

Not surprisingly, they totaled the car. We had cleaned her out as best we could on the side of the road, but felt we needed to give her a more thorough sweep in daylight, and I wanted to say goodbye to one of my favorite cars ever. The Lord protected me from harm that morning and I am very thankful that I was not hurt or did not lose control of the car and hurt others.

Goodbye Juanita, thank you for being such a good car to us. ❤
