Halle Berry, Survivor

Standard

Before Mousey and I left on our trip to Washington state at the end of July we nearly had a tragedy. Our sweet Halle Berry required an intervention. All of the sudden she became socially unacceptable in the tail end and we noticed she had lost quite a bit of weight. I blame the in and outs of summer for my lack of observation. This all happened days before we left for Washington.. Mousey and I took her in to the vet, where they x-rayed her and determined she had a serious blockage. They sent us home with a stool softener, a mineral oil enema, and strict warnings to keep her in a small room because evidently that stuff is explosive and stains. YIKES. insert a horrified face emoji right here!

Here she is on her car ride in, she would have used the horrified emoji here.

IMG_0789 (1)

For the most part she was such a calm, good girl, even throughout her humiliating exam. She still didn’t know what was going to happen when she got home!!!

IMG_0788 (1)

Our plan of action was to remove the litter boxes from our coat room to the next door laundry room for the other 3 felines, so we could then put some old sheets and towels on the coat room floor before we began the “procedure”. At this point all of the other nosey parker cats came out of the woodwork to see what was going on because Halle was still contained in the cat carrier and suggesting regularly that she would like to be RELEASED. I found a small litter box in the garage for her to use because we were going to need to check that to see if there were any… deliveries. Then we shooed the gawkers out of the coat room and let Halle out. Her one and only desire then became to get OUT of the coat room. Mousey helped hold her while I squirted the stool softener down her throat and gave her the enema, which I have to say I did not feel qualified to do. We left her alone with some food and water and an old bed, all of which she never touched out of spite. Or fear.

The poor thing was starting to look like a hot mess, sticky stuff all down her chest from the stool softener, some other stuff on her paws that the directions assured she would lick off. She never did. And because she thought she was being punished by being left in the coatroom under mortifying circumstances, she was a very sad kitty. She never ate or drank at all. We did have a little success in the toileting area, but it didn’t seem like it was enough to solve her problem.

I was really getting concerned with the lack of eating and drinking, so the day before I left, Abby and I hauled her back to the vet to check on her progression. Was she dying? Do we need to put her down? Has my massaging her belly helped one iota? They took another x-ray and sure enough she had unplugged!!!! Thank you LORD!!! We brought her home and released her back into free reign of the house!

Mousey and I left the next morning. The day after Honey sent Mousey and I a video of her at the water bowl, delicately dipping her paw in the water and licking it off!! We about cried in relief! Thank you Lord again!!! She has been right as rain since. But I’m pretty sure she used one of her 9 lives.

On a hilarious side note, and not to be gross, but we were having to help Halle through this debacle with some bathing. We call this a bum wash and it requires a tail holder, so it is a two person job.

During this time I was making plans with my good friend Shari, who was going to be in town from her home in Texas the day after I returned home from Washington. On accident Shari received my text to Mousey, making plans around her work schedule!

IMG-7623 (1)

OH.MY.WORD. I laughed SO hard when I figured it out!!!!!!!! Every time I read it I laugh all over again!!! I can only imagine Shari reading, then rereading the text!!!

So we are thankful for Halle Berry, the Survivor!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Standard

Hi Guys! Glad to be linking up with the Hodgepodge after way too long! I had a busy spring and blogging was definitely on the back burner. Here we go!

From this Side of the Pond

1.Describe your 30’s in one sentence. If you’re not yet 30 tell us one thing you hope to accomplish once you hit that particular decade.

I was immersed in motherhood, got a couple crash courses in nursing, and learned that Jesus meets us where we are, smack in the middle of our need and gives us new mercies, morning by morning. ❤

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto us.
2. Is it harder for you to exercise or eat healthy?

I am a fairly faithful walker, so I don’t even think about that too much, so I guess eating healthy. Although I can do it for an extended time. I have been doing Keto with pretty good success but have suspended it 3 times now for a vacation, a hectic couple weeks and another trip. I will be reconvening it shortly! It’s not hard when we are home and I am prepared, it’s the eating out, the special occasions and trips. I have to say that I feel much better physically when I am faithful. Carbs = inflammation for me. I do have a higher carb day or two every few weeks with no harm.

3. June 7th is National VCR Day. Huh? Anyway this reminded me of something I saw on Facebook listing household items we no longer have and the VCR was on it. I couldn’t put my hands on that list, but found another list here of 21 items we all had ten years ago, but which are now obsolete-
bookshelves (WHAT!!???), drip coffee makers, alarm clocks, file cabinets, desktop computers, printers, printed phone books, answering machines, fax machines, paper shredders, a Rolodex, CD racks, CD burners, china cabinets, home phones, entertainment consoles, DVD players, calculators, takeout menus, incandescent light bulbs, and cable TV

Your thoughts? How many on the list do you still have? Still use?

These things are obsolete??? We still use everything on the list but a fax machine, Rolodex, and the CD racks and burners!!! Well, maybe the phone book not so much, but we do get one every year. I just Google that stuff. We use the rest of the things regularly, and a lot daily! We old!
4. What’s something you see disappearing in the next ten years?

Landlines. We still have one but, because of caller id, we barely ever answer it. Today one call actually said Illegal Scam!!!!! Who would answer that??!! They may not even make it 10 years.
5. How did you celebrate your birthday this past year? Is that typical?

I seriously have no idea. We are not great birthday celebrators around here. It happens, but often a month or so later, often combined with another occasion.
6. Insert your own random thought here.

I finally got to see our nephew nugget play a game of baseball!!!! Medium Goomba has had a switch of passions from ALL things Super Hero (although he is STILL a fan) to all things BASEBALL!!!! He is enjoying playing on a team and learning some new skillz! Honey and The Ab-Cat were able to take in a game when I was in Virginia, but this was my first excursion. Honey, Mousey, Ab-Cat and I took ourselves out to the ballpark.

Workin’ on that stance! I have to say that the majority of players on bases (on both teams) were due to walks.

IMG-7407 (1)

But once he got there, he started stealing those bases!!!!! Stole first and then second with a SLIDE!

IMG-7410 (1)

Good job Friend!! 🙂

IMG-7411 (1)

We met up ay McDonald’s for an after game ice cream with Goomba and Beeve, a very fun evening! GO SOX!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I Am Liking

Standard

This post has been in the drafts box for some time, I just keep adding to it. Here are a few things that I am especially liking these days.

I was having a big problem with dry skin earlier this winter, I am prone to this, but it was particularly annoying because my face was so itchy. Abby’s former dermatologist had recommended CeraVe lotion, because she is a Sahara herself. She had a very good response to the lotion, and when she was looking for a new face wash decided to try theirs. When I was complaining about my distress, she let me try her new product, that she was liking a LOT. Within a few days my itchy dry face was gone, and I am now a satisfied customer!

IMG-7074

I think I must have read about this or Mousey (my personal cosmetics information guide) told me about it, but wherever it made itself known, I think it has been helpful. I purchased it from Better Health, and the gal who helped me find it said this was a good brand, so I went with it. I put it on my clean, dry, skin after I clean it with the CeraVe and my Clairsonic Mia. Just a light layer under my eyes, and everywhere else, focusing extra around my mouth and chin. Because seriously, where did all those lines come from??!! I’m not kidding, it looks like I have some sort of snake bite scars! I do wash off the excess with a warm wash cloth just before bed so it doesn’t just end up on my pillow case. My skin remains soft and hydrated after.

IMG-7182

Here are three more skin related tidbits, to be worn together. For the last few years the majority of my skin care questions to Mousey have been about old skin. This has caused her to have to research, because she is not old.

I have never been a connoisseur of pricey makeup. I don’t think I have ever ventured out of the isles of Meijer, Target or CVS for any cosmetics. Until the last few years, I had never even worn moisturizer on my face. In the summer i wore a little powder, bronzer as blush, eyeliner and mascara. At some point I started recognizing that the old grey mare (literally and figuratively) just ain’t what she used to be. I needed some kind of regimen.

Enter Olay Pro X. Welcome to the family. I think Capri P may have told me about this. I started to feel a little better about my hide. Now I realize that in the scope of products, these are probably reasonable, but having never worn any such stuff, I had a little sticker shock. They have lasted a long time though.

IMG-7186

And then Mousey found me this at Ulta, one of her favorite stores. Having already been broken down with the price of the afore mentioned moisture, I just took her advice and grabbed it. We did have a coupon, that made it easier to bear. And I will say that this is the second winter I have used the same tube and there is still a ton left.

IMG-7184

The other thing I use to make myself presentable is from Arbonne. I really like their loose powder. It sets the foundation nicely and gives your face a nice glow. That sounds really dumb, but I don’t want to look like matte Hag Barbie. I have also used their bronzer as blush for years now. I buy these products from Mrs. Schmenkman’s darling niece. Funny story, she works at a nearby city hall. When my order arrives she texts me and we arrange a time to meet in her parking lot. She tells me to park by a side door then she comes out and we exchange a check for the goods. I told her feel like we are conducting illicit business!!!!

IMG-7185

So there you have it, what it requires for me to look presentable these days!

Schnibbles

Standard

I thought I was finished being sick when we last spoke, but alas, I was not. The other cold symptoms have left but I am still coughing. It feels like that could go on for a while. While my immune system was waging war with the virus, my ever present kidney infection decided to make its move and overrun the bladder territory. It is being crushed mercilessly by a 5 day course of Cipro.

Anyone else not a fan of the Cipro? I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Weak, headache, heart racing. Plus it came with 4 pages of side effect notes, which is alarming in itself. I guess it’s better than a reaction to Bactrim, but not by much.

Besides coughing, I have done a few things around here. I got a temporary crown. Apparently the second tooth from the back had 3 cracks, that were causing it to feel…insecure… while using it. I was glad the dentist could figure out which one it was because I was unsure if it was that one or its big brother behind it. It has probably had a filling in it for over 40 years, I guess it has fulfilled its purpose. I thank you for your service.

The gals in our house have all had their hairs done. The Ab-Cat is all chemically straightened for another 6 or so months, Mousey is heavily highlighted once again, and I have had my silver lining removed for another 6 weeks. I have one more client today and then I am ON VACATION for 2 weeks!!!!

Honey and I are heading to The Sunshine State for a little R and R, so attention to the blob could be spotty, or not. I make no guarantees in any direction. I have brought the suitcases up from the basement, gone to the library with Abby to check out some reading material, started an area on the kitchen table with things we need and add to it daily, and have a pile of clothing in the bedroom awaiting packing. It’s getting real!

We have had some warmer weather that has melted a goodish amount of Winter Storm Mateo, but I have to say, some of the roads in our town are not going to make it through this winter! I thought Warren was a horror, but Morton Taylor is an ABOMINATION!!!! The people in charge of such things should be ASHAMED of themselves!!!!!!! And don’t give me that garbage about it being the county’s responsibility, get that dumb truck out there with the tar pellets in it and fill in those TRENCHES!!!!!!! Good common sense, its like a war torn country out here!

In good news, I have lost 8 pounds on the Keto diet! I don’t think I will make my goal of 15 before we go on vacation, but HOORAY for 8!!!!! We have decided we will eat normal on our trip, but as Honey said, not go hog wild! I asked what that meant, he said we would not have ice cream twice a day. Not sure that was really a thing, but it must have happened a time or two to stick in his mind! All I can say is chicken pot pie, I’m coming for ya!!!!!!!

We have been watching The Olympics, or should I say DVR-ing them, because OH.MY.WORD. the commercials! So many commercials! We loved the snowboarding and are heavily invested in figure skating at the moment. Abby and I have been using the ever present commercial time to goggle old figure skaters we used to love! A lot of them are fairly active on social media, hi Scott Hamilton, Kristie Yamaguchi and Michelle Kwan! Have not heard Honey mention hockey so I’m guessing that is not in high gear yet.

Have a pleasant Monday, I got stuffs to do!

On a Tuesday

Standard

I believe I mentioned that The Mitten has been C.O.L.D. lately. And snowy. So I have been IN a lot!

Honey and I have been watching Justified on Amazon Prime. Man, those hillbilly’s down yonder in Kentucky are some bad customers!!!!

Honey had a long weekend off because of Martin Luther King Day. He goes back to work for 4 days and is then laid off for 2 weeks. It’s like practice for when he retires!!!

Speaking of Honey, he has been planning a fishing trip to Alaska next summer with Mrs. Schmenkman’s husband, Mr C!!! Honey has been a couple times before, so he has some ideas about what to do and what to miss. They have been e-mailing, texting and calling each other up a storm, trying to get all the details hammered out. I sent a chat message to Mrs. Schmenkman while playing Words With Friends. I said; “they are so cute planning their trip!!!”, she said “I know!!!!”

Yesterday was my first day on the keto diet. I had keto pancakes with a schnibble of homemade raspberry jam made with Truvia  for brunch, and for dinner I had eggs and sausage. I was alone and Mama don’t cook when there ain’t nobody home. In the literature I received from the natural path dr it mentioned eating in “windows” of time. Such as only eating in a 10 hour window and fasting for 14, or eating in an 8 hour window and fasting for 16. Black belt keto eaters can evidently shrink their windows down further to 6 or 4.  I unintentionally had a 7 hour eating window, so I am pretty happy with that. I wasn’t starving, but I know that some days are hungry days and the heart wants what the heart wants! So long as it’s legal! Honey is starting today because he needed to polish off the remainder of his last hurrah pizza and wings. Mousey has been on it a week or two already and she said she would be glad to welcome us to her eating regimen. She said it was hard and lonely on her own.

I would be happy to loose 10 pounds and ESTATIC to loose 15. I’m not sure what Honey’s goal is.

Sy has been sticking closer than a brother in all of the cold weather. He is all about laps and blankets these days. Seeking warmth from Mousey’s computer?

IMG-5674

He sleeps on The Ab-Cat’s desk in front of her computer all.the.time.  He bushed. That paw.

IMG-5765

Because it has been majorly wintry, I have been reading The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I like to read about that winter from HE-double hockey sticks whenever I start to feel the least bit sorry for myself. No matter what we’ve got going on, it’s not 7 months of blizzards, up to –40 degrees below zero temperatures and no food, coal or kerosene because the trains were not able to run!!!!!

I’m going to Sam’s today because we are down to 7 sticks of butter and our last pint of cream, HORRORS!!!!!

Enjoy your Tuesday. Stay warm 🙂

A List of Things

Standard

Hi Guys. It has taken about 3 weeks to get over The Plague. I did most things that people suggested in an effort to reduce my misery including but not limited to; Emergent-C, a T of honey and a T of apple cider vinegar, TRULY HEINOUS!!!! Folks kept telling me I needed a Hot Toddy, and they had old family recipes, certain liquors and other ingredients they thought worked best. It said online that whiskey was the best thing to help you sleep, so SIGN ME UP.

Honey graciously brought me this. Maybe as an homage to his Canadian roots. Fun Fact: when we lived in Windsor, Ontario, we regularly passed by the place that made this! All I have to say is I will never be an alcoholic. I had to drink that Hot Toddy holding my nose. I did sleep a wee bit better that night. The next night I decided to not prolong my misery of drinking an entire mug of nasty, I just drank the 2 ounces as a shot. The Ab-Cat said she had to see this and proceeded to laugh when I held my nose and threw it back, because I was gagging!

IMG-5505

I just put the bottle in the cupboard above the fridge and called the experiment a dismal failure. But in other news, Honey has contracted some other kind of plague and he had his own Toddy this morning. There was no unpleasant gagging I’m happy to report.

In other news!

THIS is happening!!!! We have lived in our home about 18 years and there has always been an empty field behind us. Our builder told us that a church owned the property, but other than a once a month appointment with a giant machine to cut the grass/weeds, there was never any activity back there. The only time I ever went back there was to stealthily scatter leaves, weeds and other garden debris that caused the bush hog guy no trouble, So basically the point behind our house was a compost area.

We started hearing rumors that the church wanted to sell the property. This caused us mild concern, only because we did not fancy a gas station or something like that back there. We soon heard that another church bought the land, and I actually knew some people who went to that church! My good friend CMB’s parents are in attendance as is the mother of my old friend Suzanne Suzanna Danna, along with others from the church where we all grew up.

IMG-5504

There were starts and delays, rumors of trouble with the city and the county, a sign was posted and then one day there was a fence around the entire property! Then the heavy equipment moved in and now we have a HUGE hole on the other side of our hedge! Since we are getting the retention pond back there, we can only assume that has something to do with the digging. They have been struggling with a lot of rain, so work has been in fits and starts

I don’t know that you can tell, but it’s about a 15 foot hole back there! Honey has been using the noise machine when he sleeps because they are Johnny on the spot at 7 in the morning and don’t knock off until 6. They have holes to dig and dirt to move and as of one day last week, cables to cut!!!!

IMG-6068

IMG-5532

We noticed our internet was out, but it is not unheard of to have occasional interruptions over here. When it continued and we did a little investigation, we discovered we had no TV or landline. That seemed fishy. After a conversation with Wowway, it was determined that we, and our neighbor to the south, had no service. They did not call to report it because they conveniently do not live there anymore. The nice Wow guy came out and ran a temporary line until they could bury a line and we were happy to welcome the distraction of cable back into our lives.

This is probably around the time the line was cut, they are mighty close to our box.

IMG-6065

One whole day without internet, tv and phone and I have to say this is how we felt. Thanks Oklahoma Tammy, very timely I must say!!!!!

IMG-5530

Because of Thanksgiving, our BSF class moved to Monday, with an abbreviated leaders meeting earlier than usual and then class right after. It’s a full day, but it works for us. I have been participating in the 7 day, black and white challenge on Instagram, no words, no people and no explanation. This was one of my offerings. As BSFfers, we are known for our ability to make very nice circles. I’m pretty sure it might say that in the Bible. “They were known for their love, and ability to make a great circle”. Or something like that. 😉 Miss May’s circle in the sanctuary.IMG-6079

When the weather turns, this young catten gets very cuddly and needy. He just needs to be touching you. We don’t mind. It’s just a good thing he is so sweet, because he is about 50% trouble. Some days 75.

IMG-6081

Because of the holiday, schedules are all joophered up, in a good way! Plus we are not hosting Thanksgiving, we’re OFF!!!! Therefore, I have a little more time to blob!!!! Planning to be back tomorrow with The Hodgepodge.

Stuff From the Days

Standard

Hey Y’All, it’s Monday again. Every time I turn around, how about you?

I read this last week. Abby had picked it up at the library sale for a buck. She said she had read it before and liked it a lot, so it came highly recommended. I did like it, but it made me feel supremely skeptical of my own personal survival skills. It’s about a couple that didn’t know each other, who survived a plane crash in the mountains. I think I will look into this author’s other work.

IMG_4659

I laid to rest the completed Whole 30 on Tuesday, a moment of silence for the death of the NO wheat/rice/corn/beans/sweetener/dairy/joy diet.

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!

I finally lost a little weight on the last week, bringing my total to 7 if I count the extra 2 pounds I started with from vacation, and you know I am.

Here is my Wednesday!!!!!!! What a pleasure to be back at the old Chip and Dip!!!!

IMG_4649

They want you to add things back in gradually, to see if any food group in particular causes you grief. I’m not going to lie, this was nigh unto impossible. I was feeling successful after leaving lunch because I had fajitas with no cheese, sour cream or tortilla, OR Diet Coke, just steak, mushrooms and guac, plus the chips and salsa. I was feeling proud of myself for only introducing corn. But then I remembered that I had those 2 birthday cupcakes and piece of pineapple upside down cake in the freezer and that put flour, sugar and dairy back in the mix in one fell swoop! BAM!

In my defense, I did not eat ALL of the dessert at once. That would be wrong. I spread it out over 2 days and was thankful it was gone. I practically licked the container, didn’t want to waste any of that frosting.

It was pretty much all down hill after that.

Honey wanted to try this place we had never visited called Primanti Brothers. They had really good pizza and because we wanted to get a better picture, we had their fried pickles and sandwiches.

That was a yummy burger! Of course I had been burger deprived for a month, but I think it was pretty good! I’m telling you right now that Honey helped with those fries. And I only ate 1/2 the burger and the other half for Sunday lunch.

IMG_4657

Honeys corned beef extravaganza.

IMG_4656

If I’m being honest, and I always strive to do so, I think I do feel more achy and sore. My back and shoulders, ribs and waist seem more uncomfortable since going back to eating anything in the whole anything kingdom. I am thinking dairy is in the clear because I have had the least of that. I am thinking wheat is the culprit. I am going to be more intentional this week and see if I notice any difference.

We then came home and watched Patriots Day, about the Boston Marathon bombing. It was a horrible thing, but it was really something to see how quickly they could figure things out to identify the bombers and how things happened. Plus a few lucky breaks.

IMG_4670

There is evidence of spring in The Mitten!!!!! #proofoflife! We had wonderful weather this weekend!

IMG_4650

Today was the first day of the 2017 walking season with Keelyody! It was lovely and springy outside, we didn’t even have to start with gloves and heavy jackets!

IMG_4660

And so it begins.
