First List of Summer

Standard

Whew, had a little bit of the hectic going on the last couple of weeks. Mainly working. I told Honey that about everyone of my clients needed their hair done in a three week span! I had people stuck all over the place! Add that to all the bits and pieces and life was a little full. How about a little catch up list?

Honey is having one of those months where everything he touches breaks or is already malfunctioning. I despise these times! He already has so little extra time and having multiple things that need his immediate attention is stressful and annoying for him. I’m praying that God expands his time and gives him uncommon wisdom. Two cars are acting up, our pool has air in the lines that cause it to gurgle like the worst intestinal trouble ever, all the live long day, and worst case scenario would need lines replaced which involves breaking concrete and we do NOT want to go there!

Before any of this new stuff sprouted he was working on his dang hedge clippers that will.not.start. despite all of his vast mechanical abilities. In the meantime our bushes and hedges just grow higher and higher. There is probably more, but these are the most consuming at the moment.

The Grandpa went to Philadelphia to visit his son Larry and look what they did!!! Not too shabby for 79 years of age! Here they are in front of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed. I know that because of the movie National Treasure, which I HIGHLY recommend! On a segue way, just like Job Bluth, amazing! He had a great trip!

The Ab-Cat’s van is one that is needing attention, so I was dropping her off and picking her up from school on her last week before summer vacation. On the last day she asked if I wanted to come in and meet her “teachers”, the 3 teachers she goes between with her overage hours. It was wonderful to meet them and they said such kind and encouraging things about our girl! I loved walking through the halls with her and hearing the choruses of “Hi Miss Abby!!!”.

On the day I was coming into the school, she texted that I should get buzzed in, go to the office to sign in, and the ladies in there would tell me where to go.  When I arrived I said I was Abby’s mom and she was with Mrs. M. The woman said she could take me down there. When we got to the classroom the students were at gym, so only Abby and the teacher were in the room, I overheard Ab say “oh, there’s my Mom!”. The woman who had walked me from the office said “oh, you’re ABBY’S mom! I should have noticed that right away, you two look so much alike!!”. At that point I told the woman she was my favorite person of the day/ month/year for thinking that I could have been the mom of a second grader!!!!!

Jip the Farm Dog’s son Daniel Tiger plays baseball for Central Michigan University. Fire up Chips! In a very exciting turn of events he was drafted by The Colorado Rockies!!!!! Now, I am not well versed in sportal things, but even I know this is a BIG DEAL!!!! Someone created this scene for him to celebrate the news!

IMG_5201

Well done Daniel Tiger!!!!! And because Mom has been there every second of the journey, well done Jip the Farm Dog!!!!!

A bunch of past and present BSFers are going to do a Priscilla Shirer study this summer at our church. It’s called Discerning the Voice of God and I am really looking forward to it. Last years Armor of God was probably the most helpful study I have ever done, and if this one is even 1/2 as good I will be thrilled!

I spoke with The Boy and The Dane on the phone the other evening and they are both WAY ready to meet their new baby girl! The Dane had been to the dr that day and not much was happening. She is officially due on June 30, but she would be happy to go earlier! Her folks are coming from Denmark for the first 3 weeks of July and I’m guessing they would rather spend 3 weeks with the baby OUTSIDE of The Dane!!!!!

I still can’t decide if I should be Grammie or Grandma. Still pondering.

Ok, enough for now, enjoy your Thursday!

Catching Up

Standard

Spring is shaping up nicely in The Mitten. Honey and I actually got out there one day last week and did some yard work, weeding, cutting back grasses and such. Mousey helped me empty our shed of chairs, wind chimes and the pretty shelves and other things that help us enjoy our patio. I was sitting on the front porch yesterday afternoon with the elder felines and young catten and decided that this week needs to be the first grass cutting.

But, I got ahead of myself, we need to go back to Easter weekend. We took a trip over the Ambassador Bridge to see The Canadians! They have been here, but it had been far too long since we had visited the land of Honey’s people!

Queeny B and Paisley!

Paisley with her big brother Burke!

Then Turtle, Kim and sons! Parker and Spencer are adorable!

Finally Krazy Kenny, Honey’s sister Nanny Rachel, and Burke again. We need to do it again soon, those kids are SPROUTING too quick!!!!!

Our Easter Girlies. I am not sure what animals they are, but I love it!

IMG_4685

We spent Easter Sunday at church and then joined The Grandpa, Beeve, Stacey and Goomba for lunch at a mediterranean restaurant, in a nod to our Savior’s place of origin.

I am hosting the Sharing Day fellowship for BSF admin and children’s leaders again this year. I have set a goal to have my flowers planted and arranged attractively in their places. It will either turn out great or cause me great angst. To help me get a jump on my plan, Jip the Farm Dog and I are heading out to the Favorite Flower Place on Thursday after BSF. She is, of course, buying flowers for her own yard. For some reason we have a great fondness for buying way too many flats and pots and then have to perform something like garden Jenga to get them all in the vehicle. We evidently like a challenge and take great pride in recalling our past successes!

Have a pleasant Monday.

Stuff From the Days

Standard

Hey Y’All, it’s Monday again. Every time I turn around, how about you?

I read this last week. Abby had picked it up at the library sale for a buck. She said she had read it before and liked it a lot, so it came highly recommended. I did like it, but it made me feel supremely skeptical of my own personal survival skills. It’s about a couple that didn’t know each other, who survived a plane crash in the mountains. I think I will look into this author’s other work.

IMG_4659

I laid to rest the completed Whole 30 on Tuesday, a moment of silence for the death of the NO wheat/rice/corn/beans/sweetener/dairy/joy diet.

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!

I finally lost a little weight on the last week, bringing my total to 7 if I count the extra 2 pounds I started with from vacation, and you know I am.

Here is my Wednesday!!!!!!! What a pleasure to be back at the old Chip and Dip!!!!

IMG_4649

They want you to add things back in gradually, to see if any food group in particular causes you grief. I’m not going to lie, this was nigh unto impossible. I was feeling successful after leaving lunch because I had fajitas with no cheese, sour cream or tortilla, OR Diet Coke, just steak, mushrooms and guac, plus the chips and salsa. I was feeling proud of myself for only introducing corn. But then I remembered that I had those 2 birthday cupcakes and piece of pineapple upside down cake in the freezer and that put flour, sugar and dairy back in the mix in one fell swoop! BAM!

In my defense, I did not eat ALL of the dessert at once. That would be wrong. I spread it out over 2 days and was thankful it was gone. I practically licked the container, didn’t want to waste any of that frosting.

It was pretty much all down hill after that.

Honey wanted to try this place we had never visited called Primanti Brothers. They had really good pizza and because we wanted to get a better picture, we had their fried pickles and sandwiches.

That was a yummy burger! Of course I had been burger deprived for a month, but I think it was pretty good! I’m telling you right now that Honey helped with those fries. And I only ate 1/2 the burger and the other half for Sunday lunch.

IMG_4657

Honeys corned beef extravaganza.

IMG_4656

If I’m being honest, and I always strive to do so, I think I do feel more achy and sore. My back and shoulders, ribs and waist seem more uncomfortable since going back to eating anything in the whole anything kingdom. I am thinking dairy is in the clear because I have had the least of that. I am thinking wheat is the culprit. I am going to be more intentional this week and see if I notice any difference.

We then came home and watched Patriots Day, about the Boston Marathon bombing. It was a horrible thing, but it was really something to see how quickly they could figure things out to identify the bombers and how things happened. Plus a few lucky breaks.

IMG_4670

There is evidence of spring in The Mitten!!!!! #proofoflife! We had wonderful weather this weekend!

IMG_4650

Today was the first day of the 2017 walking season with Keelyody! It was lovely and springy outside, we didn’t even have to start with gloves and heavy jackets!

IMG_4660

And so it begins.

An April List

Standard

April all ready?? Four months into the new year we celebrated about ten minutes ago???WOW.

Feeling listy here.

A week ago Saturday we celebrated some birthdays with pot roast, carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy and garlic mushrooms! We combined The Ab-Cat and The Grandpa, since they are only a month apart, it is our way. We were supposed to birthday them earlier but Dad came down with a truly heinous cold/flu that really laid him up, like for weeks! We are thankful he is feeling back to normal!

Mousey captured his fairly elaborate candle blowing extravaganza!

IMG_4615

IMG_4616

He claims this as his favorite cake.

IMG_4617

Then Abby was up! Cherry chip seems to be the favorite of our womenfolk!

IMG_4620

IMG_4622

Blew the fire right off that cupcake! Mrs. H. had a prime seat, between both birthday celebrants!

IMG_4624

Tomorrow is the final day of The Whole 30 diet I have been struggling through. I am not sure which contraband substance I will reintroduce first. Cream in my tea? The frozen birthday cupcake in my fridge? I have a feeling it is going to be Chip and Dip! The BSF lunch gals have been very gracious to go with me to a Mediterranean place for the last month, but we are all hankering for some chips and salsa!!!!!

While eating dinner on Thursday, I found a strange ingredient, my crown.

IMG_4638

IMG_4639

Thankfully the dentist squeezed me in on Friday afternoon to glue that bad boy back into place! Thank the Lord it wasn’t damaged and I didn’t crunch it! I am a little concerned because now that tooth seems way too sensitive to hot and cold, and it never sported those features before. I am observing.

Honey came down with a nasty bug and has been miserable for days. I do believe he has turned a corner and is on the uptick. Because he was suffering and I was unhappy because some antibiotics I was taking had caused some mouth ulcers, we were not the most ambitious folk. I called a Bones week, and managed to plow part way through seasons 7 and 8, one after another. What did we ever do without Netflix during sickness? It reminded me of my enjoyable time spent with my friends from CSI Miami after surgery!

Only 6 more weeks of BSF!!!!!!! Goodness, this has been the fastest year ever!

Looking forward to the walking season beginning with Keelody! Will have to see if Jip the Farm Dog is onboard for another go, that one is a busy farm dog!

I know I mentioned that Honey was retiring in January of next year, That has been tweaked to March of next year for several reasons. But we are now OFFICIALLY counting down , 11 months until retirement, WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, have yourselves a pleasant Monday!

A List!

Standard

Now that the vacation memories have been posted I feel like I have odds and ends to share. Smells like a list to me.

It was evidently beautiful and warm in The Mitten while we were in Florida. It has only been cold, snowy and rainy since our return. There has been sunshine, but it has been nippy. I have observed a lot of chirpy, happy, spring is coming type posts on Facebook, but I have lived in Michigan long enough to know that the spring date is merely a suggestion.

I have been doing a little shredding for Honey. He has rigged up a contraption to make the job easier.

IMG_4600

We have already filled up one whole bag with stuff from the late 80s and 90s! I have been shredding a lot of returned checks, remember when they returned them? Because I can only do 2 or 3 at a time I find myself looking at who they were made out to, and that has been rather interesting! And sad. I have come across a lot made out to my Mom and to our friend Michelle, who passed away last fall. She was a Creative Memories consultant and I made good use of her services. There are also lots of checks to the kids school and Scholastic for book orders, and about a gajillion to Meijer and Target. A little snapshot of our life. I also shredded a lot of financial papers and was reminded that Honey started putting away money for savings and the kids education from the start! I am so thankful for Honey and his skills!

In our study of John at BSF we have been learning more about The Holy Spirit. I love learning about this. The Holy Spirit and His conviction is one of the things I am most thankful for in life. I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was a young girl and spent the next 20 or so years having doubts I did it “right”. As I intentionally started walking with the Lord, I realized that the still, small voice that I heard and felt was guiding me in life and causing me to recognize when I was not doing the right thing. It gave me such assurance! I know the enemy is not convicting me of my failings to bring me to repentance and restoration, he only wants me to suffer from guilt and condemnation. I know the enemy does not give me true direction and joy, he only lives to create disaster, dissention and division.

IMG_4602

I am God’s child!!! This is how I can be sure! The enemy is NOT testifying with my spirit that I belong to God, I’ll tell you that!

We are in the dog days of winter and I find I have no gumption to do much of anything. I am ‘in a relationship’ with Netflix. I seem to be slightly obsessed with watching Bones and The Great British Bakeoff. I know, what a combination.

Bones reminds me somewhat of my previous obsession with CSI Miami. Mindlessly watching others figure out crimes and cleverly solving murders. It has its place.

The Great British Bakeoff is an education of a different sort! Probably not the best thing to be watching in my current state of dietary incarceration (more about that tomorrow!)

These are the hosts, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. I love listening to them talk about food, it’s almost hypnotic! They use words I don’t know, the contestants cook things I have never heard of, and yet I am oddly fascinated.

IMG_4603

The contestants are usually darling and so sweet and generally helpful to each other. One of my favorite things at the moment.

Ok, I need to scoot, be back tomorrow with the diet post.

Thoughts For The Week

Standard

How has a week gone by and I have not posted a thing??? I guess I am rustier than I thought. I don’t intentionally drop the ball. It’s like the old Steve Miller song, time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin, into the future.

Well, here I am with some random thoughts.

Hey!!! It’s already February! Sheesh, January flew by. The 28th would have been my Father’s 82nd birthday. I was strolling through photos, looking for shots of him with the kids to put on the Facebook, when I came across this sparkling beauty. Here he is sampling Honey’s homemade dill pickles. This picture is a perfect little snapshot of my Father and one of his primary interests; good food! If he were still alive this could be a throwaway shot, but I am keeping it now as an insight of what he enjoyed! And I think he majorly enjoyed everything he ate over here! Just look at him, totally engrossed in his pickle tasting!

IMG_0284

This is what I believe. WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME PLANE PEOPLE!

FullSizeRender (75)

This amuses me endlessly!!!

FullSizeRender (77)

Oh Seymour, it’s the little moments such as this that cause us love you so! The stalking, creepy, naughty moments? Not so much.

FullSizeRender (78)

I can’t remember if I mentioned that The Boy suggested that we become pen pals. He found a box in the basement this summer that contained a lot of my correspondence from 35-40 years ago. You may be wondering why I still have all that, and I would say I am sentimental about letters and notes, they would land in the top 5 category of meaningful things I save. Little did I know that one of my children would find them interesting decades later!

The box contained concert ticket stubs, Beatle’s books, my high school sports letters, other memorabilia and letters from my Grandma Georgia and Grandma Hoover, random other folks, then a whole slew from my friend Dawn! I have taken that box to my room to read at my leisure about the things we thought important enough to talk about between classes in 11th and 12th grade! Also amusing to me were a whole bunch of inter office communication from when Dawn, our friend Suzanne Suzanna Danna, and I worked at Michigan National Bank!!! Those letters where we pretended we were married to our favorite celebrity at the time! Good grief, if any bank official ever opened those gems! I read The Boy a few and he thought they were hilarious!

So he decided we should write letters, kick it old school, record our conversations so maybe his children will find them decades later, in a box in his basement. I got my first letter this week.

IMG_4339

We have begun to give our imaginary public what they want! It’s the least we can do.

Schnibbles of Stuff, Wishing I Had Some Emojis!

Standard

Hi Guys. I am feeling better after Honey so graciously shared his cold with me. All congestion was in the head, but now both nostrils are open and breathing with my mouth closed has resumed. Came down with it on Thursday evening, so it was pretty quick actually. Trenda, a friend from BSF, told me to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it!) mixed with a little water, it was nasty, but if it cut the sickness down by some days it was worth it! I couldn’t taste much anyway! One eye open, other closed, tongue out emoji!!!

I have had a very needy young catten on my lap all morning. What up Sy?

IMG_4318

I keep gently placing him down on comfy blankets and couches, and before I know it he is back on my lap. Smiling emoji!!!

In early January, before school and work and BSF started back up, I had lunch with these fine gals! CMB, Jip the Farm Dog and Heifer Lynn! Always good to get caught up on each others lives and laugh a little!  Cat with star eyes emoji!!!!!

IMG_4298 (1)

FullSizeRender (73)

Oh yes it is!

My Bible study this morning was cancelled because of ice. I guess a lot of school districts around us are closed. Not ours mind you. It’s amazing how fast I fell out of paying attention to school closings now that I no longer have children attending! BUT! I guess The Ab-Cat IS once again a participating member of our district!!!!! So I guess I need to change my previous statement! Heart emoji!!!

Honey and I binge watched a couple things over the holidays. First was Stranger Things, which we polished off in a day! The second took a lot longer. Man in the High Castle had 2 seasons, so we watched quite a bit on New Years Eve and Day and have watched it here and there in the weeks since. It is based on the idea that the Germans and Japanese won WW2 and share occupation of America. We finally finished season 2 and I saw that it was approved for a third. I wondered when that might be, since we are now invested in the lives of Juliana, Joe, Frank and Ed, Obergruppenführer Smith and the Trade Minister. In my looking I found out the second season was only released in December of 2016!!! We are going to have to wait a looooooong time!!! Crying emoji!!!!

See you tomorrow. Fingers making an OK emoji!!!
