Way Back When-sday Hodgepodge

1. On Saturday July 4th America celebrates her Independence. (If you’re not American,  feel free to answer in terms of a national holiday in your own country) What is your favorite thing about the day? Your favorite food on the 4th? Do you fly a flag at your house? Fireworks-yay or nay? Any special plans this year?

The day usually involves a get together, so that is always fun! I don’t have a favorite food, I can usually find many yummy things. As I have said before, we had to take our flag pole down during the Sewer Debacle of 2010, and I’m not sure Honey has ever hoisted the flag since. I should probably speak to him about that.

I do not care one bit about the kind of fireworks you can set off at your house. Sparklers were fun when the kids were little. I do enjoy a big firework display though. We will probably see one up at Gun Lake this weekend when we visit my Uncle Bob and Aunt Phyllis at their cottage! We are excited because Girl Cousin Lindsay and her husband Rob B, otherwise known as the world famous Team Levine, will be there from Florida, and that means we will play a WHOLE bunch of cards!!!!!
2. What’s something you recently got for free?

Honey got a new backpack leaf blower for his birthday / Fathers Day and the salesman gave him a free carton of premixed gas and oil. There you go.
3.  The Statue of Liberty, The Liberty Bell, The Washington Monument, or Mount Rushmore…how many on the list have you seen? What is your favorite historical American monument, and why?

I saw the Statue of Liberty with my youth group in high school, and saw The Washington Monument  when we went to Washington D.C. with the kids in 2005 and LOVED it!

 

Honey and I hope to get to Mount Rushmore when we go out west….someday. I know I would enjoy a trip to see the Liberty Bell. I am a history nerd.

I think one of my favorites is the WW2 Memorial. The outcome of that war was so important for our world. Those brave men and women have my utmost respect and gratitude for their sacrifice and service.
4. When it comes to the news are you more ostrich (stick my head in the sand) or hog (they have room to take a whole lot in)? How much attention have you given the recent news reports regarding ISIS and the acts of terror they’ve perpetrated against those who do not share their beliefs or support their cause?

Somewhere in between .I have to say that the news now days is depressing on most all fronts.  It’s hard to watch disconcerting news all the time. But I do want to be informed, so I watch,

Anyone with a shred of humanity can see that Isis is evil and depraved. It is hard to comprehend the sin and hatred that cause them to try and justify their cause in God’s name. This has the potential to be a huge problem in our world for years to come and it makes me wonder why the nations have let it go on as it has. I don’t pretend to understand how complicated the problem is to solve but even I can see that mistakes are being made that can have long reaching implications for our future.

5. We’re talking plain ice cream…vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry? Choose one.

I like them all but vanilla is a better base for different toppings! Hot fudge, strawberries, peaches,  yes please!
6. Share a song you love containing the word ‘stars’ in the lyrics or title?

When I was much younger I liked Lucky Star by Madonna.
7. Describe and/or say goodbye to June with an acrostic.

J Just please stop raining!
