Way Back When-sday Hodgepodge

Standard

Hi Guys! Glad you stopped by! A big thank you to Joyce for gathering us together and giving us things to talk about.

1. March is National Women’s History Month. In that vein, who are three women who’ve been influential in your life? How so?

I have had the blessing of many influential women in my life but I think I will say my Mother, her mother, my Grandma Georgia, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I think I have always been aware that I was influenced by my Mom, but I realize it even more the older I get. She has been gone for 6 years now but I still hear her in my mind. I remember her wisdom, advice and perseverance when life life is hard. I would dearly love to be able to talk with her and get her perspective again. I guess I would say she taught me how to be.

My Grandma Georgia was a real treasure. She was kind, loving, no respecter of persons, a prayer warrior and a super fun gal! She also knew a thing or twenty about persevering when life was difficult. I guess I come from women who could live with joy in the unexpected trials of life.

Even though I didn’t know Laura, I felt like I did! She influenced my love of reading and gave me a look into how life was very different not so long ago. I loved reading about her adventures, her simple love and loyalty for her family, how they did things in her lifetime and even their  hardships and disappointments were presented as something one could overcome. I was a better person for knowing her.

2. In what ways do you think women have it easier than men?

Strictly speaking for myself, I have it easier than Honey because I can’t fix things like he can. He has had to take care of some pretty hard/ nasty/ complicated problems. And for that I am very thankful!!!!!!

3. What do you need most right now: faith, love, hope, or peace?

This Presidential election has me feeling a little hopeless and anything but peaceful. I’ll have some hope and peace please.

4. Do you have a collection? If so, what do you collect and why?

Not in the usual sense, but I do look for shells and rocks that are heart shaped. It started many years ago when one of the kids gave me a little heart shaped rock they had found., I kept it on my ring holder. So I guess I have a little collection going there!

5. Plaids, checks, polka dots, stripes…your favorite?

I guess polka dots would be my fave but I don’t wear them much. They seem happy, don’t you think?

I do seem to have some stripes as well, see picture above.

6. In what ways are you the same as your childhood self?

I still love the kitties, just like I always did! Still love to be caught up reading a good book, listening to the musical soundtrack of my youth, and I continue to have a soft spot for the Star Trek franchise.

7. You’re a contestant on the TV game show Jeopardy. What category will you ace?

Well,  I am pretty unbeatable playing the pink entertainment category on Trivia Crack.  I am a fountain of useless information. I would do pretty well in a Beatle’s category as well.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Let’s go Way Back to the late 1980s to see my influential Mom and Grandma! It looks like they are heading off to church, it could possibly be Easter Sunday, in Englewood Florida.

I love these ladies, they are my People. I like to imagine they are probably gardening together in heaven for their Lord.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Isn’t it interesting how an author can so greatly influence our lives. I too have been influenced a lot by what I read. I should have included that in my answer. I’m glad you did! I loved Star Trek. Have you seen Captain Kirk lately? 🙂

  2. Your mom and grandma could pass as sisters. How cute they were! I have a habit of picking up some neat rocks on our vacations and keeping them in a Mason jar. Little reminders of where we’ve been.

  3. What a sweet photo of the ladies in your life. Remember when everyone got all dressed up for Easter? I loved that. I’m not sure I knew about your soft spot for Star Trek. You learn a little something new every week in the Hodgepodge : ) Enjoy your day!

  5. Anyone who influences someone to read is a great person. I know I didn’t get my love of reading from my mother, though I did learn a lot from her. I love your collection, that would be a great thing to collect.

  6. I almost wrote about the election specifically, too. It does seem pretty hopeless. I’m especially sad about it because our oldest will be 18 in September. I want his first election to include someone he can be happy to place that vote for.
Love that you included Laura in your most influential women.
